It took awhile, but it’s dressed up and done; my annual riot of color and sparkle that is my Christmas tree. The yarn angel tree topper that Natalie and I made as a mother-daughter craft project when Natalie was a Girl Scout in second grade survives another year.
I’m not a good photographer so the pictures don’t do it justice, but I tried.
I hope your decorating/shopping/cards/baking are going smoothly and you are not too frazzled. Our first snowstorm of the season tomorrow will really add to the spirit and mood, won’t it?

Maureen-
What a beautiful sight…a mixture of color and chaos, and lots of it….the perfect Christmas tree! And the one of a kind topper…that’s the best. My tree top is a 50 cent red plastic star (no lights please) held together with 3 rolls of scotch tape. Oh yeah, it’s old and plain .. and tradition. Sure beats those “theme” trees.
Two questions: who is the distinguished gent on the wall? Ancestor of yours or some famous figure? Almost looks familiar.
And the “Charlie Brown” tree in front of the mirror…what is its story?
Don
Don, thank you for sharing details of your charming tree topper. You are not the first person to question the identity of the person in the portrait in my living room. My pal, the WSTM news anchor Matt Mulcahy, questioned the same thing on Twitter. He’s the 19th century British Statesman Sir Walter Scott. I like his face, and as I told Matt, he adds some class to the joint.
The Charlie Brown Christmas tree sits on my dining room sideboard. I bought it at the old Kaufman’s Department Store a few years ago and for its austere structure, it’s a little different for me. I found the snowmen lights at Ace Hardware at Nottingham Plaza and think the two go well together. Anyway, it adds a certain glow to the room that shouts “It’s Christmas again!” Thanks for writing Don. M.

I love the pictures of your trees, Maureen! My trees are up and I am enjoying the old Shiny Brites and the Hallmarks. My grandson actually helped me decorate this year – something my daughter was never allowed to do! You’re right – the snow has made it seem a little more like Christmas. Now it’s time to figure out what cookies we will bake.
Pat I’m glad your holiday preps are enjoyable and on schedule. You make me smile about your grandson decorating the tree. Funny what we let go as we get older, isn’t it?
I love this time of the year and your tree looks good. Your house looks like it has a lot of character. This year my three year old (Beatrice) wanted to decorate our tree. After she was finished the bottom half of the tree was covered in 75% of the ornaments….3-4 ornaments on each branch sometimes. I was very proud of her. I took a picture of this poor and embarassed tree and fixed it afterward when she was asleep . I will save the picture for when she gets older…you know how it is being a parent.
Yes Ken, I know how it is. It’s wonderful you let Beatrice make the tree beautiful — for the first three feet. The photo will be priceless. So smart that you took it!
Greetings Maureen~
Austin Texas is great! We have settled into base housing at Fort Hood.
It seems that the Army missed me so much that they brought me back…lol!
I deploy in January, so I guess I will have a white New Year after all!!
The weather today is going to be 54 and Sunday 73!
Syracuse made the news down here, the Tug Hill area we saw was buried under a lovely 3 feet of snow.
We are heading out today to find that perfect Christmas tree!
To answer your earlier qustion, yes Maureen is the same Maureen from the old TV 5 in Syracuse!
May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
brightened by a song in your heart,
and warmed by the smiles
of the people you love.
Have a wonderful Christmas,
Doc
Hi Doc, greetings from Syracuse where as you saw on national TV, winter has finally arrived. Where is your deployment? Are you in the guard? Maureen
Good Morning Maureen~
No I am not with the Guard, I was recalled back to active duty because of my MOS, 18Z.
Special Forces, Psych Ops! I always knew it would come back to bite me in the toe, lol.
We leave in January for places unknown to most and only to a few.
I have to get to a briefing, but I will blog as often as I can, I am taking a notebook with me that has uplink capabilities, so I can keep in touch with friends and family.
TTFN…hooah,
Doc
Wow Doc, We’ll all be eager to hear of your tales upon your safe return home. God speed, new friend. Maureen
Hi, Maureen –
I’ve been on a search for a copy of “Time of Wonder, Time of Joy”, and a friend pointed me to your blog… where I’ve been wandering all morning! I’ve really enjoyed reading, and will definitely continue to do so.
Was there ever any further news on what happened to the WTVH archives?
-Jennifer
Hello Jennifer, How good of you to find my blog and show interest in the TV5 archives. No, I have no new information. It’s a pity. If I find anything more, I’ll be sure to post. Thanks so much. Maureen
