The Bailout Encourages Bad Behavior

Whether it is from this legislation directly or not, Mr. Obama’s plan will shift incentives for market actors by setting a precedent for future housing bailouts that the federal government can never take back! Government is protecting irresponsible home buyers from risk of foreclosure with this plan—especially with the $200 billion for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—that will encourage future risky behavior with the prospect of government help.

Acknowledging it’s an “imperfect” bill, President Barack Obama said he will accept a $410 billion spending package but insisted it must signal an “end to the old way of doing business.”

The massive measure funding federal agencies through the fall contains nearly 8,000 pet projects, known as “earmarks” and denounced by critics as pork.

Obama defended earmarks when they’re “done right,” allowing lawmakers to direct money to worthy projects in their districts — but added they’ve been abused, and he’ll work with Congress to curb them.

A simple line item veto would stop a great deal of these “earmarks”, I just now figured out why they are called earmarks after reading Mr. Obama’s aforementioned statement, my ears are so red from rubbing the side of my head that I now too have earmarks! Hey but at least our Governor won’t tax my haircut!!
