After a trip to Chatham in search of the great white shark spotted a mile offshore two days ago, Christian, Jacob and I went in search of low tide and the setting sun in Brewster on Cape Cod. We found both.
The boys skimboarded through the tidal pools and I snapped up all the moments of dwindling daylight. I don’t recall a finer Labor Day weekend. Cold weather arrives soon enough. Tonight it was time for long lines at the fish store and lawn chairs at the beach for the sunset. As my sister Susan used to write, “the weather is here, wish you were beautiful”.

Ahhh! Thank you Maureen for reminding me to grab some last minute summer fun! Today I think I’ll barbecue for dinner after sending off the husband and son for some golf, and tonight will be a great night for some toasted marshmallows or better yet smores while sitting on the deck stargazing!
Stinky ride. Your descriptions are priceless. How unfurtunate for you. So glad you got to see the beautiful sunsets and the boys were able to skimboard. Your pictures are oustanding. Your articles remind me of a little book I have written by Dickie Anderson. She wrote a column for the Amelia Island newspaper and then the Jacksonville. She was our leader on an Elder Hostel program. She put many of her articles into a book called “From the Porch”. Just easy, fun reading. The book is not listed in our library system but I would love to send it to you so you could read it. The quote on book cover, “She’s Amelia’s answer to Charles Kuralt.” Safe driving home. C.
Hi Maureen,
Could not resist responding to this..I love this spot on the Flats…so much. It is part of our June Cape ritual. Wonderful shots…which I was there…. Can’t wait until” the grands” are old enough to skim across the tidal pools ! But, life could be much worse…It’s a cool Labor Day in Texas.. Low 80s. YEA. Can’t remember when this happened last.

Denise, sounds like a plan! Stargazing tonight. Perfect. M.
Thank you once again Carol, you are a faithful friend here. Dickie Anderson’s book sounds delightful. I’d love to read it. Glad you liked the photos of Skaket Beach. Maureen
Karen, how good of you to write! For readers of the blog, Karen is my long time Cape Cod tenant from Texas who loves my Cape house as much as I do. I feel like we “share” the place after all these years. I thought of you this weekend, Karen. The house came through the summer just fine and will be ready for your return at any time. Hello to all in TX. Maureen
Love your pics and your very descriptive narrative – and you sense of humor – love the sarcasm
Sounds like you had a wonderful but short trip to the Cape – well except for the garbage can situation – ugh!!
We just got back from a quick 2 day trip to Watkins Glen, Ithaca, Buttermilk Falls State Park and a couple of requisite stops at some wineries. I cannot believe that I have lived in CNY for all but 7 years of my life and have never visited! I need to make up for lost time!!
And love the portobello mushroom recipe – a definite must-try.
Off to get ready for another exciting school year
Marcia, so good to hear from you again. Your trip sounds wonderful, and I’m sure it smelled better than mine, all the way through! Had I had some wineries on my way to the dump I wouldn’t have cared about the smell. Good luck tomorrow. I hope Christian doesn’t sleep through his alarm…..Maureen
