Photos, Golf Courses, Prizes

October 2, 2009

What a combination.  You blend the beauty of a scenic golf course with talent, chance and money.   It’s the Kodak Challenge.

Donna Fiedorowicz is the Senior Vice President for Tournament Business Affairs for the PGA Tour and she was at the Player’s Dinner Wednesday night at Turningstone.

I told her I’m a former TV anchor with a big mouth and an appreciation of what the Oneida Nation does for our region.  I promised to promote in any way I could the effort to keep the PGA tournament in Central New York.  She told me how excited she is about the Kodak Challenge and now I’m telling you.

Here’s how it works:  Select holes at PGA tournament courses are chosen by the PGA and Kodak for their beauty and interest of play.  Any pro golfer who plays at least 18 of these Kodak holes in the season and who ends up with the best performance there wins one million dollars.

This is why I’m very happy my 20-year old son Charlie plays golf. Like football players from the inner cities who are drafted by the NFL and who reward their long-suffering moms with a house, I tell Charlie I’m waiting for a little place in Scottsdale, Arizona.  But I digress.

The winning doesn’t end with the players.  If you sign up at :http://fantasy.kodakchallenge.com, you can guess which players will do best at the Kodak Challenge hole of the week and enter to win a trip to Disney.  OK, it’s a long shot, but someone’s going to win it and it might as well be you.

Personally I think every hole at Atunyote is a photo op, but Kodak and the PGA chose the 11th.  So sign up, follow along and maybe you’ll be heading south soon.  As for me, I’m headed to the course tomorrow to show support for these guys who left Florida, Alabama and Arizona to play in the rain and 40 degrees in our back yard.

From Subscriber Robert B. :Any idea how and what your former co-anchor is doing—Donna Adamo. Does she have a web site email address to write to her as I used to at TVH-5 before they closed the building down!

Maureen: Robert I have no contact information for Donna unfortunately. I last saw her at WCNY TelAuc early last summer and she indictated she was happy and well and writing a book. If I hear of any website for her I’ll be sure to pass it along. M.

Good Mornin Maureen, It is so good to hear all the good remarks about The Nations Golf Courses. I have been on all five of the courses personnaly and they are a pleasure to look at and very humbiling to a old golfer like me. The views on tv were outsanding and it was very hard to believe this is in our area. The good young golfers try to make lots of money to buy Mom a new house in some no snow area, but Moms will still have to come back to Oneida in the summer to see these beautiful golf courses on Turning Stone. Me; I still play every chance I get to try to win 10 bucks or so, to afford gas to go play another course another day. I still drive bus for the Oneida Nation Elders to really make some bucks to play golf and enjoy the views and company of the elders. Live is grand !!

Maureen,
So great to meet you and thank you for the wonderful posting on both the tournament and the Kodak Challenge. The golf fans in upstate New York clearly love their golf as the weather certainly did not deter many from attending. It was a great week and the players certainly put forth a great finish for everyone.
Enjoy your postings and look forward to staying in touch.
All the best,
Donna

Donna, it was a pleasure meeting you at Turning Stone. Congratulations on a terrific event. I’ll do everything I can to promote PGA golf in CNY. If a non-golfer like I can get this excited, anything is possible in this region. You haven’t heard the last from this big-mouth. Maureen

Hey Denny, thanks for writing again. I wish you many good rounds ahead. My pals tell me Atunyote will be open another month and the others until the snow flies. Keep drivin’ that bus! Best, Maureen
