Olympic Sports

February 23, 2010

It goes back around the clock.

Bumpy caterpillar swims smooth

on water that hurts.

Oh no, the back becomes the front.

Some butterfly is this.

1. What sport is this?

Plastic the muscles bend.   They splay

like the fliers.  Speed for some.

Danger on the back.

Upright or prone they zing.

Back again to the beginning.

2. What sport is this?

The world is flat, avoid the edge

Fall off, cut deep or crush the fear.

The valley, not death; it feeds

the dart higher and higher.  Turn,

Come back!

3. What sport is this?

Halloween a different form,

this knows winter by name.

Fast the ghost speeds by, horns turned inward

Like the bull.

4. What sport is this?

Maureen-
OK, this, as my son would say, is awesome. You’ve outdone yourself. Just 2 questions before I tackle these.
I’m presuming they cover ALL Olympic sports, not just the winter ones we’re watching now?
You will you provide the “answers” sometime soon … right?
Thanks,
Don

No Don, we are dealing with my feeble memory here.  Summer Olympics?  What are those?  These riddles involve only the winter games. And yes, certainly I will post the answers.  I’ll do it Monday, March 1.  Good luck and thanks for playing along!

Hi Maureen,
Wow! Can you be the next clue giver for the Syracuse Post Standard 2011 medallion hunt?As I did not succeed in finding it,I figured I would take a stab at this.I have saved my answers in an email to send to you the day before the contest ends in hopes of winning the prize.Oh, you forgot to mention what the prize is.I have not watched any of the 2010 olympics, but I have the help of Google and the Webster dictionary to sight me in on which answers to choose right from my cozy chair.I look forward to seeing if my tactics worked for me and I answered them correctly after the 3 hours of researching answers to 4 questions.

Mike you’re a good sport to give this so much effort. I didn’t think of a prize, but after all that work, I’ll send a Foley jar opener to the person/persons who get them all right, up to three Foleys total. Good luck.

Oh boy! I need some caffeine and then I’ll have to come back to this again! ;)

Maureen-
OMG…tomorrow is March 1st…. .the end of “the” contest! 15 sports and 4 questions…not bad odds! However, I will never be invited to a Mensa seminar on riddle solving. So here are my guesses/answers, for all your world to see (no copying, as if anyone would want to):
1. Curling
2. Biathlon
3. Snowboarding (half pipe?)
4. Alpine skiing (downhill?)

In case of a major miracle and I happen to qualify for a Foley, I already have one, so please pass it on to someone deserving. You must have a warehouse full of these.

Thanks for the contest…it was fun.
Don

Great answers Don! We’ll see how you do tomorrow, and thanks for passing the foley (if you win) to someone else. Can’t believe someone besides me has one of those things. So happy you played the Olympics game.
