Olympic Sports Answers

March 1, 2010

As promised, here are the answers to the riddles I created the other day.

Thanks to readers Mike and Don for playing along.  Each correctly guessed two of the answers, but no one got them all right.  No Foley this time.  But stay tuned, more contests, and the chance to open more jars, to come!

Number 1:

It goes back around the clock.

Bumpy caterpillar swims smooth

on water that hurts.

Oh no, the back becomes the front.

Some butterfly is this.

This is short track speed skating

Number 2:

Plastic the muscles bend.   They splay

like the fliers.  Speed for some.

Danger on the back.

Upright or prone they zing.

Back again to the beginning.

This is the biathalon Don and Mike got this one right

Number 3:

The world is flat, avoid the edge

Fall off, cut deep or crush the fear.

The valley, not death; it feeds

the dart higher and higher.  Turn,

Come back!

This is half-pipe snowboarding. Don got it right.

Number 4:

Halloween a different form,

this knows winter by name.

Fast the ghost speeds by, horns turned inward

Like the bull.

This is the skeleton. Mike got this one

Hi Maureen! I found your website from Syracuse.com. I wanted to say that I interned with Channel 5 one summer years ago and was so impressed with how warm and friendly you were; for being at the way bottom of the totem poll you treated me like an equal and I have always respected you for that. I look forward to reading your blog!

Maureen-
Ah, how clear they are now. Of course … skeleton…halloween. I’m a master of the obvious sometimes! Duh!
Very good exercise … I’m glad you’re going to do one again sometime.
Don
PS…nice article in the paper today. I didn’t realize there was a higher motive for starting your blog. I thought it was just for fun and as an outlet for your creative imagination, and the commercial benefits just happened to follow. Chicken…egg…it doesn’t matter. I’m just glad you are doing it. May you make your gentle living and keep sharing.

Well Don I think Maureen had stumped us on the riddles though it was really fun and we got half right. As for the prize Maureen I was only joking about the prize. I don’t need a jar opener,I have those crazy little flowers on the bottom of the tub. I think I have 2 or 3 left so I’m good on jar openers for a while. Looking forward to the next quiz and please let us know ahead of time so we can study.LOL

Sharon, Aww.. So nice to hear from you! I hope you’ll tell us where you landed. Thank you! Maureen

Mike that is hilarious!!! The flowers on the bottom of the tub!! Of course, I never thought of those! And here I’ve been buying up old Foleys on ebay to give as prizes when all I had to do is use old flowers from the bathtub. Leave it to you. You crack me up a million times.
