Launched

January 29, 2009

Such a great word.  In the past tense, you see something successfully on it’s way.   The space shuttle.  A new business venture.  A ship from dry dock.  Helen of Troy, “the face that launch’d a thousand ships” , and my particular favorite, launched to describe a new college graduate now living on his own.   You can picture the grads, fired off one by one from a cannon through the window of the Bursars’ office, hitting the ground running into a new grown up world.  An acquaintance recently referred to my oldest child in this way and I smile at the image.

This website is launched.  With help from Dick Hillenbrand, the Patron Saint of Blogging, I’ll help organize your thoughts into words and your words into print.   And I’ll do it quickly.  Back in the day, my very first boss in television news in Syracuse told me he wouldn’t assign me better stories because I didn’t appear to know what I was talking about.  Ouch.   But he did add, “you’re fast.  I know if a story breaks close to news time, I’ll can send you and you’ll get it on air on time. “  OK.  Bruised but not entirely battered and something to work with.  Until I got good, I was fast.  Racing toward credibility.  And eventually a new boss said I was good and he was lucky to have me on staff.

Let’s talk.  Maybe over the phone.  Maybe we’ll do launch, uh lunch.  We’ll get it done.
So if you need something written quickly and well, I’m your girl.  Let’s talk about it.

I used to live, beginning in the early 60s, near Nottingham High. Shopped at Peters. Saw you there often. Once, we spoke, and I never forgot that. It mattered, and I felt in that short moment I knew you better. Now, I miss you on TV, of course. I don’t live right in the city now.. moved west. But Syracuse is still the urban hub of our existence. The blog is great. Just read your reminiscences for today. I haven’t figured out blogging yet and this may not be where I should respond, but did not see another spot for comments. All the best. :-)
