Isabel and Company

It is with enthusiasm and appreciation that I welcome my newest sponsor, Isabel and Company.

Some of you may remember Isabel’s Salon receiving credit at the end of our newscasts on Channel 5 many years ago for keeping us all coiffed for the news.  That arrangement ended when the newsroom at WTVH-TV went out of business in March, 2009, but Isabel and I remained friends.  I imagine that’s pretty common for Isabel.  What begins as a business arrangement evolves into something even better.  She’s a classy lady who cares.

Isabel Claps is a lifelong Syracusan raised on the north side and educated at Central Technical High School.  In her 41 year career as a stylist, Isabel has seen the trends come and go, and come again.  ”When I first started, women wanted teased hair and a bouffant look.  Now they’re asking for that again”, Isabel told me.  What style does she wish would stay away for good?  ”The excessively permed bob” she said.  So 1980s.  Uh oh.  The eighties are coming back!  High-waist slacks, big shoulders, harem pants. Could eighties perms be far behind?

While you’re in her tastefully decorated salon, take note of the wall-sized portrait of a darling little girl with perfect brunette ringlets.  That’s Isabel’s granddaughter and namesake, also named Isabel.  Mom Maria works in the salon a few days per week too, keeping this Syracuse mainstay a generational treasure.
