Foggy Night

April 6, 2010

It is midnight and the heaviest layer of fog I have ever seen in Syracuse is covering the neighborhood.   At first I thought the windows were just fuzzy with condensation from the rain earlier today but when I took a closer look  I couldn’t believe what I saw.   I took some shots from the front yard and considered leaving a trail of breadcrumbs to guide me the 20 feet back to the house, but that strategy didn’t work so great for Hansel and Gretel,so I just took my chances.

My house looks like something from a Hitchcock movie.  And those lights in the next photo, below, are not a flying saucer that landed on 1952, they’re the streetlights that usually brighten my yard, but not tonight.  They’re no brighter than pumpkins  on poles.

We get the whole range of weather in Syracuse; sun, rain, snow, wind, but we don’t get much fog, at least not like they get near the ocean, so this is a rare treat as long as we don’t have to drive cars or land planes through it.

The last photo was a mistake, shot with the flash set on automatic. I included it because you can see how much moisture is in the air. It looks like rain, but it’s fog so heavy it feels like a  sleeping bag.

The camera flash picks up the moisture in the foggy air

I think this is the beginning of a Stephen King like novel. Love your pictures and descriptions, especially comparing the fog to a sleeping bag. I don’t particularly like fog, but Maureen you do see the best in every situation. Just came from a Westhill JV baseball game. It was a good one and great weather. Have you read the book, “The Help” ? Awesome read. Keep those blogs coming.

Hi Carol, I don’t serve all your compliments but thank you anyway, so much. Those grandchildren keep you going to all ends of the county, don’t they? Haven;t read The Help but I’ve heard its great. Perhaps this summer? xo

Wow! Somehow I missed the fog but the one big lightning bolt around 10:00 last night felt like it was on my street!

I know Pat, I heard it too. Another sign of warmer weather. Yay!
